The formula
How to convert ZAR to NOK
The maths behind a ZAR to NOK conversion is one multiplication, no rounding tricks. On 18 August 2026 that rate is 0.581777, so:
NOK = ZAR × 0.581777
Going the other way, divide instead of multiply — or multiply by 1.7189, which amounts to the same thing: one Norwegian Krone buys 1.7189 South African Rand.
The converter at the top of this page does both directions and updates as you type. Every result is recalculated on the server as well, so the number you see is the number that gets stored.
About the South African Rand and the Norwegian Krone
The South African Rand (ZAR, symbol R) is the currency of South Africa. The Norwegian Krone (NOK, symbol kr) is the currency of Norway.
Neither currency is pegged to the other, so the figure drifts from one session to the next. The figures here are mid-market reference rates from a public daily feed: the rate quoted in the news, not the rate a retail exchange hands you over the counter.
Worked ZAR to NOK examples
A price tag. Something marked R50 comes to 29.0889 NOK. Round to 29 NOK for a quick mental check while you are standing in the shop.
A monthly salary. R3,000 a month is 1745.33 NOK — useful when you are comparing a job offer across the two markets. Bear in mind the rate moves, so a figure agreed today will not be the figure paid out in six months.
Going the other way. If you are holding kr1,000 and want to know what it buys in South African Rand, that is 1718.87 ZAR. The converter handles both directions — use the swap button between the two fields.
Watch the margin. At a bureau charging 3%, your R500 would fetch roughly 282.16 NOK instead of 290.89 NOK. That gap is what the mid-market rate on this page lets you spot.
As of 18 August 2026, 0.581777 Norwegian Kroner buys what one South African Rand does. That figure is pulled from a public reference feed once a day.
At today's rate, 100 South African Rand come to 58.177706 NOK. The converter handles any amount, in either direction.
No — treat it as the reference point, not the offer. Exchange desks quote a spread around the mid-market rate and keep the difference. Comparing their quote with the figure above tells you what the convenience is costing you.
