How to calculate fat intake

Reading the result

The gram range shown (minimum to maximum) gives some flexibility around the central target rather than a single number to hit exactly — daily fat intake naturally varies meal to meal and day to day, and hitting a range consistently matters more than hitting the exact midpoint every day.

Where this goes wrong. Cutting fat too aggressively — below roughly 20% of total calories — is a common mistake in low-fat diet plans and can impair the production of hormones that depend on dietary fat, including sex hormones. That is specifically why the lowest option offered here is 20% rather than something more extreme; going lower than that is not recommended without professional guidance.

A useful check on any unfamiliar result is to compare it against a rough mental estimate first — round the inputs to convenient numbers and see whether the calculator's answer lands in roughly the same territory.
